Supreme Court Cases to be Released, Sexual Predators on Notice, & Parenting Advice
Messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention in Anaheim voted Tuesday to move forward in establishing a website where pastors and church leaders who are credibly accused sexual abusers will be listed. Americans are expressing more confidence about moving into a post-pandemic mindset. And, detours can be frustrating and disappointing. Baptist Press is closely watching three key Supreme Court cases scheduled to be released this June.
The Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health organization, the case could overturn Roe v. Wade the case that legalized abortion.
We’re also monitoring Carson v. Makin, Maine… a school-choice case.
And Kennedy v. Bremerton School District…a case where high school football coach Joseph Kennedy says the school district violated his first amendment rights by restricting his ability to pray at midfield following the conclusion of games.
SBC President Bart Barber put sexual predators on notice that Southern Baptist churches will no longer be places to hide.
At a press conference, Barber said his first priority as the newly elected 47th president of the Southern Baptist Convention will be assembling a knowledgeable team of individuals to serve on an Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force (ARITF), a move approved by messengers Tuesday June 14 in response to recommendations from the Sexual Abuse Task Force established by messengers at the 2021 meeting.
The task force will also help in the as the development of a “Ministry Check” website to share “properly vetted information,” Barber said.
