A regulation in the “Unaccompanied Children Program Foundational Rule,” submitted by the Operation of Refugee Resettlement would replace existing laws “relating to the key aspects of the placement, care, and services provided to unaccompanied children referred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement.”

The change in the regulation would also open the door for unaccompanied to pursue gender transition surgeries and abortion using federal funds.

The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is urging the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to reconsider the proposed regulation which the ERLC believes will aid in facilitating abortions and gender transitions for unaccompanied minors.

ERLC President Brent Leatherwood said the organization incorrectly claims that offering funded travel for abortions as part of care services provided to unaccompanied minors does not violate the ERLC-backed Hyde amendment.

In 2021, 625,978 legal abortions were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The information was provided by central health agencies for 46 states, the District of Columbia and New York City, yielding a patchwork picture of lives lost to abortion in the United States.

Reporting abortion data to the CDC is voluntary and state-level reporting requirements vary. The public health agency said it was “unable to report the total number of abortions performed in the United States” in 2021, limited, in part, due to the four states who did not provide data—California, Maryland, New Hampshire and New Jersey.

How can you lead and care for other with integrity? Pastor Steve Viars offers these suggestions:

Principle 3: Seek to Glorify God

Romans 5 goes says that “we boast in the hope of the glory of God” (v. 2). Our desire is not to draw attention to ourselves but instead to live so that those we lead would see Jesus in us. To glorify God is to show others who he is. Seeing how we lead should help people better understand what he is like (Mt 5:16; 1Co 10:31).

Principle 4: Embrace Leadership Challenges

Paul ends this paragraph in Romans by explaining that we can even “boast in our afflictions” (Rm 5:3). Problems are always just around the corner. But you don’t have to run from challenges—you can embrace them.
