Relief workers continue to provide aid to those fleeing persecution in Sudan. SendRelief reports hundreds of thousands of Sudanese have fled across Northern Africa due to the persecution and military conflict rocking the region.

The conflict has, so far, internally displaced and made refugees out of an estimated 1.15 million people — about the population of Montana. Many of the refugees have no intention of returning.

IMB workers, like Jerry and Meg Brown, are forming plans to assist refugees in bordering countries. Trauma healing counseling is a primary way they are meeting needs, and Sudanese Christians are receiving training in trauma counseling so they can minister to their people.

A group of female SBC leaders recently shared how they live out their calling to follow Christ and make disciples. The panel discussion took place during the recent SBC Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

Kandi Gallaty, author and wife of Robby Gallaty, senior pastor of Long Hollow Church in Hendersonville, Tenn., said it’s important that churches recognize this vital role women have always played and help women empower one another.

“I think it’s crucial that the Church inform women on how they live out their God-given calling,” Gallaty said.

“Women discipleship groups, I just can’t say enough about it. What that does for a woman in expanding their influence by investing in others. Bible literacy, accountability, prayer, you name it. It is happening in discipleship.

In a piece in the Baptist Press Toolbox, Jamie Erickson writes, “Jesus’ earthly responsibilities included many things: teaching, healing, modeling, discipling. But all these different mantles of ministry had one aim: to draw people toward growth—toward an abundant life in Him. He admonished their sin, releasing them from the bondage of slavery and separation. He encouraged people in their gifts, empowering them to act. He inspired them toward a shared vision, inviting them into service with Him. And He challenged them to outdo one another in their love for others, ensuring that His work would continue long after, “It is finished.” The atmosphere of growth He created guaranteed that the original purpose of the first Garden home—life—could be restored to continue forever.

The atmosphere Jesus created with His life was simple, never flashy, never overwhelming. It was basic but beautiful, purposeful and pretty. If you and I are to use our homes to help others feel more at home with Him, we must consider how to create inviting spaces of Christlike humility, authenticity, provision, and growth.”
