The first-ever annual meeting of the Myanmar Baptist Churches USA fellowship is to take place Monday, June 12, in connection with the 2023 annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention at the New Orleans Convention Center.

South Asian Southern Baptist churches are beginning to come together under the SBC umbrella, which already includes Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, Hmong, Korean, Laotian, Vietnamese and several more.

The Asian Collective Kick-Off Gathering is set for 3-5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, in Rooms 208-210 of the New Orleans Convention Center. Register for this gathering of Asian pastors, leaders and ministry partners here.

This gathering is to kick off the 2023 SBC Pastor’s Conference and Annual Meeting, Yanes said.

A healthy deacon leads to a healthy deacon ministry, which is an important part of a healthy church.

Such is the principle behind “The Deacon Ministry Handbook,” released through the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Church Consulting and Revitalization team.

Steve Rice, who leads the team, said the book came about after studying just how crucial effective deacons are to a healthy church and a desire to increase resources for that area.

The 144-page book is available through B&H Publishing and was authored by KBC staff. Video guides are also available for individuals or group study.

Royalties from book sales will go toward church revitalization and health efforts, Rice said. A Brazilian publisher has expressed interest in a Portuguese translation.

In a piece on BP Karl Clauson writes,

  • Jesus was crystal clear – his church is a prevailing church. Finding a prevailing church is critical to your relational strength, emotional health, and spiritual trajectory – your life depends on the church you choose. Although a prevailing church is never perfect, it is God honoring and mighty.
  • What should you look for in a church?
    • Humble leadership
    • A priority of prayer
    • The centrality of the gospel
      • Gospel preaching is more than bringing people to the point of salvation. The gospel is a call to a new and living way. It is calling people forward, on their knees, living in dependence on Christ and standing in his righteousness – self-righteousness has no place in God’s church. The gospel is a message of joy, not condemnation. Jesus condemned hypocrisy and saved sinners. The preaching of the gospel must be done with kindness and compassion because that’s how God saves lives. There is no more excellent message on the planet than the gospel. It will never go out of style, and if offered in mercy, it can melt the hardest of hearts. (
    • An atmosphere of love
    • A message of grace
    • A focus on discipleship
